Homologous inflation rate down 0.3 percentage points in August 15 September 2012
The rate in consumer price index variation between August 2011 and August 2012 stood at 2.2%, down 0.3 percentage points from the previous month. The monthly variation rate between July and August stood at -0.2%, while the average inflation rate over the past twelve months stood at 2.8%.
According to the National Statistics Institute (INE), the most expressive highs in prices were seen in food products and non-alcoholic beverages (2.5%), accessories, household goods and home maintenance (3.2%), rent, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (3.5%), transportation (3.9%), alcoholic beverages and tobacco (7.1%) and hotels, restaurants and cafés (10%). Inversely, prices in the areas of communications (-14.2%), leisure, recreation and culture (-3.1%), clothing and footwear (-0.7%) and education (-0.3%) dropped significantly.
On a regional level, upward monthly price variations were seen on the Island of Santiago (0.1%), thanks to the contribution of food products and non-alcoholic beverages, hotels, restaurants and cafés.
On São Vicente, meanwhile, the monthly price variation was of -0.9%.
