President of popular Portuguese soccer club visits Cape Verde 12 September 2012
Luís Filipe Vieira, the president of Portuguese soccer club Benfica, which is wildly popular among Cape Verdeans, will arrive in Cape Verde this Friday, September 14, accompanied by a delegation from the club he represents, to preside over the grand opening of the Geração Benfica (“Benfica Generation”) Soccer School in Mindelo, on the island of São Vicente.
The Benfica delegation will be welcomed Friday by São Vicente mayor Augusto Neves, after which a protocol will be signed and flowers will be placed on the tomb of former Benfica player Carlos Alhinho, a São Vicente native.
On Saturday morning, the Mindelo Geração Benfica Soccer School will be officially opened with a parade and a demonstration of activities at Adérito Senna soccer field. The ceremony will be followed by a match between the under-15 teams of Geração Benfica and Estoril, followed by a lunch with the mayor.
