Man kills girlfriend, turns himself in to police in São Filipe 25 July 2012
A Mosteiros-born man murdered his companion, Maria Neida Lopes Barbosa Vicente, on Tuesday night, July 24, in the city of São Filipe, on the island of Fogo. The individual turned himself in to police immediately after the crime, according to the São Filipe National Police squadron chief, José Gomes.
According to information gathered by A Semana Online, the crime took place in the Beltchês district of São Filipe. The couple has three young children.
António Alberto Pires, also known as Tony, confessed the crime to police, explaining that he had smothered his common-law wife. He is currently in custody at the São Filipe National Police squadron and is expected to be arraigned in the coming hours.
National Police sources say that the couple was known to have experienced various incidents of domestic violence, with frequent trips to the police and to the courts.
