PAICV lodges criminal complaint against São Domingos municipal chamber 15 June 2012
The PAICV’s municipal election candidacy in São Domingos, led by mayoral candidate Mário Lima, filed a criminal complaint against the São Domingos municipal chamber this Thursday, June 14, for allegedly having distributed building materials in exchange for votes.
The complaint was filed this morning at São Domingos district court and in the local National Elections Commission delegation. According to a communiqué from the PAICV, the municipal chamber took advantage of the pre-campaign period to donate construction materials to needy residents of the Praia Baixo district of the municipality.
“We have noted that the São Domingos municipal chamber has deliberately and abusively been distributing civil construction materials to more vulnerable individuals who have experienced housing insecurity for decades,” according to the candidacy of Mário Lima.
According to the São Domingos PAICV’s communiqué, the move is “a desperate attempt to try to purchase people’s conscience in favor of the ruling party in the municipality, which publicly supports the opposing candidate.”
