Ana Olívia Monteiro Santos, a 10th grade student at São Vicente’s Ludgero Lima High School, was distinguished with an honorable mention by the international jury panel in a prestigious writing and debate competition promoted by The Living Rainforest. “A história que eu quero contar” (“The story I want to tell”), which earned the student the distinction, discusses the relationship between man and nature from the dawn of history to the present.
The prestigious contest is an initiative aimed at celebrating the Rio+20 Summit. As such, the organization The Living Rainforest challenged elementary and secondary students worldwide to think about what their own governments and world leaders should do to ensure the sustainable development of the planet Earth.
Ana Santos received honorable mention in the contest, in which 885 high school students from 59 countries participated. The Cape Verdean student’s essay was considered one of the 15 best and garnered her a diploma, which has made her, her parents and teachers proud.
