Vehicles carrying PAICV supporters attacked with stones in Mosteiros as campaign opens 14 June 2012
The kick-off of the 2012 municipal election campaign was marked by an incident in Mosteiros, on the island of Fogo, where vehicles in a PAICV parade were targeted by individuals throwing rocks in Mosteiros Trás.
The PAICV’s first secretary in the municipality, Jaime Monteiro, told A Semana Online that stones were thrown at the vehicles driven by himself, by incumbent mayor Fernandinho Teixeira and by other supporters as they drove through Mosteiros Trás in a parade marking the kick-off of the municipal election campaign.
One of the PAICV supporters was struck on the head by a rock, and was taken to the local hospital with minor injuries. Police are investigating the incident.
